Departure of trains and buses to Machu Picchu suspended due to state of emergency

Suspended tourism. The two main tourism transport companies between Cusco and the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu will suspend their services. All this in obedience to the decree of state of emergency declared by the national goverment
, before the advance of COVID-19 in the country.

PeruRail, operators in the South East rail system that includes the route between Ollantaytambo and Machupicchu Pueblo, will stop operating. Although there is no official statement IncaRail, the other train company, would also do the same and announce it in the next few hours, as it became known.

Likewise, the company Consettur, which has a monopoly on transportation between Machupicchu Pueblo and the Inca Citadel of Machupicchu, made it official that they cease to provide services in compliance with the disposition of the national government.

In a statement, they indicated that the reprogramming of the tickets will be done without a time limit.

With these two events, tourism to world wonder is suspended. This measure is only comparable to what happened in March 2010 when the entrance to the stone city was suspended due to the destruction of the rails due to the rains. That time the closure was for a month.

Miguel Zamora, administrator of the archaeological park of Machu Picchu explained that they are with the minimum necessary staff to provide security and maintenance to the sanctuary. Due to the measure adopted by the Government last Monday, the entrance was closed to approximately 2,500 visitors due to the coronavirus.
